Roadmap

We worked with leaders, teachers and support staff from a broad range of NSW schools over two years to better understand their digital context, pain points and develop prototypes.

The co-designed solutions were embedded in a Schools Digital Strategy (SDS) delivery roadmap structured over three horizons.

[Narration]

As the world continues to change, so must we. From the way we communicate and learn to the jobs we do and the decisions we make.

To prepare our students for life in a digital world, we must embrace change.

With the Schools Digital Strategy, we can give our students, our teachers and those who support them the digital skills they need today and in the future.

Students will be encouraged to help plan and track their progression, with rich, personalised learning tailored to their needs.

Teachers will have the tools, training and support they need to become skilled, confident and creative digital innovators.

Parents and carers will be more connected to their child?s school, with more opportunities to engage via the channel of their choice.

School leaders will be able to choose the digital journey that best suits their needs, with more support to build connected, collaborative, digitally-enabled learning environments.

And school support staff will have more time to focus on support for teaching and learning, with simplified and streamlined admin processes.

Our schools will be more innovative, efficient, informed, seamless, inclusive and  connected.

Today's students. Tomorrow's world.

Setting a clear digital roadmap

The solutions were embedded in a roadmap structured over three horizons.

1. Optimise

The Rural Access Gap proof of concept (POC) covered 29 schools in the Dubbo, Narrabri, and Northern Border Region as part of Release 1 of the program.

The POC was extended to 110 schools by the end of June 2021. The program was rolled out to more than 1,000 rural and remote schools and completed in 2023.

2. Evolve

Service delivery, digital infrastructure, processes and platforms are extended throughout the public school network.

Principals can browse a digital service catalogue as new needs emerge; teachers blend digital elements seamlessly into their lesson delivery; parents and carers gain full visibility of their child's learning journey; and continual innovation becomes the norm as new and emerging technologies are fully leveraged.

3. Transform

Digital delivery becomes fully integrated across the department and sector-leading expertise is developed. Students enjoy equitable access to digital resources and smart devices, and the department provides strategic advice based on data-driven insights.
