Professional learning

Due to COVID-19, all term 3 and 4 VALID professional learning will be delivered online via the VALID assessment platform or Microsoft Teams.

NESA registered VALID 6 & 10 online marker training

Markers of VALID 6 & 10 will be registered by their school test administrator (STA) via the test platform. Details and links for the training will be sent to their registered email.

The marker training is mandatory for participating schools. Supplementary events to support markers are detailed below. These are not mandatory.

Replacing face-to-face events.

Supported delivery of the online marker professional learning for all VALID 6 and VALID 10 extended response questions (1 day)

This 1 day course will be repeated on 3 separate days. Please enrol in ONE all-day event only.

Target audience: Markers of VALID 6 and VALID 10 who would like a more supported approach to the online learning and marking of VALID as well as an opportunity to network with Science teachers from across the state.

This seminar is the supported delivery of the online marker professional learning. The online learning is mandatory for markers and is available at any time throughout the marking window. Attendance at one of these all-day events is not mandatory.

This free event is open to teachers registered to mark VALID 6 and VALID 10 for their school Schools are responsible for the cost of relief for participating teachers.to attend this all-day online event.

Registrations will open for these events on Friday 11 September at 4.00pm when the test window closes. The name of the questions and the concepts covered will be released then.

These 1 hour sessions will introduce the SOLO taxonomy and the marking rubric for each VALID extended response question.

Target audience: Markers VALID 6 and VALID 10 who would like an explanation of SOLO and the marking rubric to support the online learning and marking of VALID. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification of the rubric.

This workshop is designed to support the online marker professional learning. The online learning is mandatory for markers and is available at any time throughout the marking window. Attendance at one of these 1 hour workshops is not mandatory.

This free event is open to teachers registered to mark VALID 6 or VALID 10 for their school.

The VALID team will be available Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm during the marking window, (16 September to 18 October) via Microsoft Teams.  Markers will be provided with the link to the Mircrosoft Team when they register for marking.


Head teachers and school test administrators (STA)

The following events are to support head teachers and STAs in the administration of VALID and the analysis of VALID data.

A summary of the existing processes, new features and changes to the online platform used to administer VALID.

Target audience: Recommended for all School Test Administrators.

This free event is open to teachers acting as School Test Administrators for VALID 6, 8 and 10 for their school

An introduction to the VALID reports available in Scout

This 1 hour event will provide a quick introduction to the reports available in Scout and the information that can be used by schools, faculties and teachers to improve student outcomes.

Target audience: Senior executive, head teachers and teachers new to the VALID data in Scout

This is a free event for schools participating in or interested in participating in VALID.

Dates: 2 events, 21 October and 8 December, 3.30pm to 4.30pm

This one day event will highlight the whole school and faculty implications of a school's VALID data and how to develop a plan to translate this into action for 2021.

Target audience: head teachers and aspiring school leaders wanting to take a supported deep dive into their VALID data in Scout.

This is a free event for schools participating in VALID. Schools are responsible for the cost of relief for participating teachers.
