Text alternative – Wider than Gwydir

Warialda Public School is leading a community of schools in north western NSW in an innovative project called Wider than Gwydir. The project is successfully broadening the minds and future horizons of students in the middle years (5-8) through dynamic industry partnerships and online collaboration.

Timeline and milestones

2016 milestones
  • 92% of students replied to a survey highlighting that they are interested in careers that require no further education beyond high school.
  • Design of an innovative middle years project to connect students to industry experts to broaden students' horizons.
  • Trial of Wider than Gwydir Networking events.
2017 milestones
  • Wider than Gwydir events each fortnights connecting students and schools to a diversity of industry experts using online collaboration technologies.
  • Survey results demonstrating positive impact on student values and attitudes.

Positive impact

  • Students more aware of a diversity of careers
  • 75% of students have identified areas of interest
