The journey

Curran Public School is situated in Macquarie Fields, south west of Sydney and is part of the Glenfield network of schools. Our community is culturally diverse and this brings great strength to our learning community. We have an enrolment of 280 students. 16% of students are from an Aboriginal background and 43% have language background other than English (LBOTE). Our focus is on ensuring that every student is a successful lifelong learner who has purpose, a diversity of opportunities, is treated with dignity and has an authentic curiosity about the world around them.

Students from Curran Public School were successful in the national Future Problem Solvers competition in 2016 and became Australian champions for the second year in a row. The design and implementation of the innovative Future Problem Solvers project has made a significant difference to the entire Curran Public School community. It has been an amazing achievement to present this in an international forum.

The Future Problem Solvers project has focused on empowering students to identify and engage with real world challenges. The Future Problem Solving Team has built strong community partnerships to support student learning in and out of the home. The team is ensuring that every student entering Kindergarten has a strong learning foundation and is set up on a successful schooling pathway.

The success of the project has resulted in the formation of a highly successful transition to school program where students have become mentors and parents have become partners in learning. At Curran Public School, we enhance modern learning, deliver quality pedagogy and targeted interventions consistently across the school from K-6. The phenomenal achievements of our Future Problem Solving Team are a testimony to our approach in preparing our students for successful life-long learning.
