The journey

Parklea Public School is an innovative, dynamic and strongly inclusive primary school providing a quality education for students in Western Sydney. We are committed to providing rich programs to develop skills in technology, critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaboration to enable students to reach their full potential educationally, socially and emotionally. Our school is developing a culture of evidence-based, data informed decision making and aims to build the capacity of all teachers to lead, improve learning and innovate.

Parklea Public School empowers our students to be assessment capable learners, problem solvers, creative thinkers and collaborators. Establishing a whole school Learning to Learn Framework provides a scaffold for thinking, learning and creating. By using this framework, students will lead the learning, being digital disruptors rather than just consumers of knowledge. This initiative has also seen the establishment of a ‘Techsperts’ program for students in Year 3 to Year 5 and K-6 coding and robotics clubs. These programs have facilitated the development of student leadership, critical thinking and problem–solving skills, including greater ownership in the implementation of school–wide creative and productive technologies. Leadership has played a central role in driving the change process for this initiative to be a success. It has involved all teachers working collaboratively to build their capacity in teaching our students to be assessment capable learners, problem solvers, creative thinkers and collaborators. A strong, shared vision has enabled a collective understanding of the direction of the change and more importantly a deep connection with ‘why’ this is a necessary focus.
