The Regional, Rural and Remote Leadership Program (RRRLP) was on the agenda for two days of learning in Tamworth, led by SLI Executive Director Joanne Jarvis and principal Corinna Robinson.

In Dubbo, the SLI’s Sam Jackson and Nicole Waugh delivered first component of the Lead and Aspire Mentoring Program to teachers and leaders from 13 schools across the Central West.

These visits are part of the SLI’s commitment under the Leadership Excellence Action Plan to make high-quality leadership learning available to all leaders in NSW public schools, regardless of location or context.

Exploring social and emotional intelligence.

The RRRLP supports school leaders to strengthen their leadership capability through practical, evidence-informed strategies, professional dialogue, and opportunities to connect with colleagues from other schools.

This is the second visit to Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School in Tamworth as part of the program. The session focused on social and emotional intelligence, with 47 participants engaging in activities to improve their understanding of how social and emotional intelligence skills can support better leadership in schools.

Participants said the sessions gave them more confidence in their leadership and provided relevant resources that can be used in any context.

“The presentations were engaging with relevant tools and strategies to support social emotional intelligence in leadership roles,” one participant said.

The SLI team will return to Tamworth in October to deliver two sessions on Feedback Culture.

The skill and art of mentoring

Meanwhile the LAMP team visited Dubbo College Senior Campus this week to deliver the Skill and Art of Mentoring workshop to teachers and leaders from 13 local schools.

LAMP develops the practical mentoring skills of experienced staff who can then form a mentoring relationship with a colleague seeking to strengthen their teaching or leadership practice.
