Evaluating the School Leadership Institute's programs
The School Leadership Institute’s programs are evidence-informed, and based on best practice and global research into effective leadership.
We evaluate each program at key points to ensure it is responsive to the needs of participants, the Department of Education, and the wider profession.
Our evaluation methods measure the outcomes for leadership programs, the participants of these programs, and the impact on the NSW public school system. We are committed to thorough, evidence-informed reviews of all our programs so we continually improve them. We will ensure all our leadership development initiatives have a proven impact on leaders and ultimately on the quality of teaching and learning in our schools.
Our evaluation methods for every program will focus on five key areas.
- The extent to which program selection processes achieve their purpose.
- The extent to which participants report their satisfaction with the learning.
- The impact of programs on leadership learning and development.
- The extent to which leadership development programs encourage a pool of ready leadership aspirants.
- The extent to which leaders improve their practice to impact on the system.
Analysis of data in response to these key evaluation questions will enable programs and initiatives to be reviewed and refined.
The SLI also has three focus themes we take into account when evaluating our programs. They are:
- Aboriginal leadership
- Inclusion and Diversity
- Equity of access
We are committed to ensuring that all our programs are accessible, promote diversity, and will help deliver improved outcomes of Aboriginal leadership across the NSW public education system.
Participants in all our programs may be asked to take part in evaluation activities such as surveys, feedback forms and focus groups. This will help us continue to deliver high quality, relevant and impactful professional learning for future participants.
