2026 Googooda Indigenous Games
[Upbeat music]
Maleek, Goodooga Central School
The coolest part about the Goodooga Games is that everybody gets together, like all other schools come. When other kids come here, they notice that it's only a little town.
Kate, Boggabilla Central School
The dancing in the morning was really good. It was culture likely and that's what Aboriginal paper dance to.
Kira, Goodooga Central School
Culture to me means I get to represent who I am to all the other kids and where I came from.
Billy-Jo, Goodooga Central School
I'm Billy and I'm a proud Murruwari boy, and I am from Goodooga and I'm in Year 7. Mob means to me all my life and all my culture, and all my family and friends.
When I'm on country I feel like the land connects to me and I connect to my mob.
Keira, Tenambit Public School
My favourite part of the Games was the volleyball game. It was so much fun, I enjoyed a lot.
Deontai, Goodooga Central School
The best thing about the Health Hub is going in and getting your health checked and just checking if you're okay.
Kalyra, Dubbo Public School
I really enjoyed going through the Hub because they checked my teeth. I usually don't really like the dentist but it was really nice.
Kate, Boggabilla Central School: [Voice over]
The disco was cool because everyone gets to meet each other and dance around, meet new friends.
If you haven't been to the Games before, you should come because everyone gets included and it's so fun here. So come next year.
In August, more than 600 students from 38 schools travelled to the state’s far north-west for the annual Goodooga Indigenous Games, celebrating Aboriginal culture through traditional games.
Students from as far as Nowra made the journey to Goodooga Central School, where they took part in nine rounds of traditional Indigenous games adapted using modern equipment.
For the second year running, the department brought a Health and Wellbeing Hub to the Games, working with close to 20 service providers to offer health checks and engage with students around healthy lifestyles and careers.
Many school groups stayed at Goodooga Central School for multiple nights enabling students to visit local attractions and take part in Games week activities including the Health and Wellbeing hub and disco.
