Premier's teacher scholarships

Twenty-two scholarships, from corporate supporters and private foundations, provide funding of $10,000 or $15,000 for  a five-week study tour within Australia or overseas. Scholarships are awarded in the year prior to the study tour.

The majority of scholarships are for school-based teachers to explore best practice in their chosen subject area. Since, 1999, over 420 teachers in NSW have undertaken a Premier’s Teacher Scholarship with many describing their experience as career-changing. To make it easier for teachers to apply, enhancements this year include an online application form and targeted support for teachers in the application process. For example, there are online guides to choosing a topic, writing an application and information on the selection process.

Applications for the NSW Premier’s Teacher Scholarships close Friday 11 May 2018. Find out more http://education.nsw.edu.au/premiers-teacher-scholarships

Paula Madigan is a teacher at Coffs Harbour High School and was awarded the Premier’s English Teachers Association English Scholarship in 2017. She has just returned from her five-week study tour to the US. Paula’s study tour addressed the question: how can English maintain its key role in the academic and social development of students in a STEM world where the focus is more on workplace literacy rather than the study of literature?
