This online leadership program focuses on the development of skills and capabilities for newly-appointed first time principals.
This course will count towards Teacher Identified Professional Development (PD) hours (known as Elective PD under NESA’s new Accreditation of PD Courses Policy).
Description
The Growing Great Leaders™ Online Program is available to Newly Appointed, First Time Principals by invitation only from the School Leadership Institute who have partnered with the University of Auckland Centre for Educational Leadership.
The Growing Great Leaders™ online program is a leadership development program based on the Student-Centred Leadership model developed by Distinguished Professor Emeritus Viviane Robinson The GGL™ program focuses on the development of the professional skills and capabilities of new principals, enabling them to work effectively in their unique contexts, alongside their colleagues and communities, to improve teaching and learning outcomes This is achieved by building competency across the dimensions and capabilities as identified in Viviane Robinson’s ‘Student-Centred Leadership’ framework.
The program consists of an orientation to the theory and critical content of 6 modules:
- Introduction to Student-centered leadership
- Relational trust
- Establishing goals and expectations
- Resourcing strategically
- Solving complex problems
- Ensuring quality teaching
The GGL™ program requires participants to be active in the learning process, contributing openly and interacting positively with both facilitators and colleagues. The program utilises a virtual, synchronous delivery approach using ZOOM and other technologies. Participants will work in both large seminar groups as well as small professional learning groups (PLGs) with a trained principal facilitator, based on school size and school type. Participants will also have the opportunity for reflection and application of researched GGL content in their own school setting between each module..

Summary
PART A of the Growing Great Leaders™ online program for principal participants is the first of two compulsory parts. Part A focuses on Modules 1, 2 and 3 (Introduction to Student-centred leadership, Relational trust and Establishing goals and expectations).

Summary
PART B of the Growing Great Leaders™ online program for principal participants is the second of two compulsory parts. Part B focuses on Modules 4, 5 and 6 (Resourcing strategically, Solving complex problems and Ensuring quality teaching).
