Facing up to racism Part 1

Participants will explore the scope and dimensions of racism in Australia and the impact of racism on individuals and communities.

This course will count towards 5 hours of accredited Professional Development (PD).

Description

The Facing up to racism - Part 1 online course is the first stage of the Facing up to racism blended professional learning. It is a prerequisite for the second stage, the Facing up to racism – Part 2 workshop. Participants are encouraged to complete both parts but the online part can be completed as a standalone course.

The Facing up to racism - Part 1 online course will develop the skills and confidence for school staff to identify, understand, discuss and challenge racism in a positive and constructive way.

Current research highlights that understanding racism is the first step in developing anti-racism interventions. Understanding includes recognition of the historical origins of racism and the impacts of racism. The course content of this online course includes the scope and dimensions of racism in Australia and the impact of racism on individuals and communities.

To complete the course and receive the accredited PD hours, participants must: work through the online learning activities, upload their post-course evaluation and arrange to meet with their principal /supervisor to discuss their learning.
