Effective use of Desmos in mathematics Suite
Build the capacity of participants to choose and use ICT effectively, such as Desmos, to improve the learning experiences for students.
Description
The objective of the PL is to build the capacity of participants to choose and use ICT effectively, in this case Desmos, to improve the learning experiences for students.
Teachers will be able to reflect on their current practice and successfully plan to integrate technology into their teaching practices in order to help students develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.
Teachers will be able to use technology (Desmos) to enhance their explanations of mathematical concepts and to create mathematical models that allow students to explore real life scenarios before making judgements and drawing conclusions..
Roles
- High School Mathematics
Effective use of Desmos in mathematics - Module 1
Summary
During this module, participants will
- develop skills in using classroom activities to prompt students’ thinking and to identify misconceptions
- develop skills to facilitate feedback to students – through direct and peer feedback cycles
- build their capacity to augment and modify (SAMR model) teaching practice to improve students’ skills and conceptual understanding
Effective use of Desmos in mathematics - Module 2
Summary
During this module, participants will
- Design and develop Desmos activities to encourage participation
- Elicit problem solving, reasoning and communication through Desmos simulations
Effective use of Desmos in mathematics - Module 3
Summary
During this module, participants will
- Develop skills in using classroom activities to prompt students’ thinking and/or to identify misconceptions
- Develop skills to create coherent lesson sequences in Desmos that incorporate the working mathematically components
