Social stories
A social story is an effective way to teach children how to navigate a new situation, such as starting school or preschool. Social stories can help children understand what to expect at school or preschool and they can be used to support orientation, which is particularly useful when children and families are not able to be on-site.
These social stories have been developed as templates for schools to use as part of their transition practices. Some photos have been included to represent a diverse range of contexts, however, these can be changed to suit your own school. A number of versions of the social story templates are available, requiring various technical skills. You can choose the option best suited to your school.
