High school graduation – Kotara
Kotara High School is having its Year 12 graduation assembly professionally filmed this year. Students will get a proper send-off while enabling families and other students to enjoy the celebrations and be COVID-safe.
The principal has employed a film company to record the assembly professionally. The graduation assembly will feature Year 12 students and teachers only. The footage will be recorded, edited and then saved on a commemorative USB which will be given to every student in Year 12 as a farewell gift. It will also be played in classrooms so other students can watch the graduation.
The principal has deemed the production company as essential to the running of the school and it has been approved by the DEL/ED. Strict infection controls are in place:
- equipment will all be sanitised on entry and after leaving the school grounds
- production staff will have temperature checks, and wear gloves and masks
- production staff will be supervised.
The graduation will feature all the traditional elements – certificates, first in course awards, school captains giving speeches and welcoming new captains, teachers presenting montages of the students' journey through school, as well as funny stories.
Schools with large cohorts of students could consider staggering parts of the graduation assembly so that not all Year 12 students are gathered together at once.
Two days beforehand the school will have a short assembly with the entire school (you can have one to a max of 15 minutes under new restrictions). The school captains will each give a two-minute speech, there will be a two-minute film/photo montage and then the rest of the school will do a big loud clap out as the Year 12 students leave the hall.
