Meet Gillian (Gill) White.
Gill White is the new Director of the Disability Strategy Implementation team which falls under Lisa Alonso Love Executive Director of Learning and Wellbeing. Gill is passionate about public service – whether that be in government, the non-government sector, as a job or in a voluntary capacity. She sees education and disability as areas where she has the privilege of working with a wide range of people who share that passion, and who inspire her with their commitment and advocacy for children and young people.
To understand Gill’s passion and why she’s leading this project, you don’t have to look much further than her impressive experience. Before joining the NSW Department of Education, she was at the Department of Premier and Cabinet. There she led the cross-government team that developed the NSW Government’s response to the Royal Commission on Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
Her background in policy and ability to collaborate across departments saw her attain a secondment in the Premier’s Office as a senior policy adviser on disability, family and community services and a range of other issues, and at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
While in Canberra, she had the opportunity to work on the first stage of the negotiations and roll out of the NDIS.
To top it all off, she has a legal background and is a proud alumnus of the University of New South Wales, Columbia University in the City of New York and NSW public schools.
Beyond her experience is a person with a quick mind, eagerness to work hard, strong leadership and a drive to see the outcomes achieved. She is excited to work on the Disability Strategy “because it is about making a real and lasting difference to children and young people with disability, as well as a true opportunity to enrich the broader school community.”
She joins us with the right mindset and attitudes, understanding that the Disability Strategy is a living document and the need to continue to collaborate and learn from our partners on how to continuously improve educational outcomes for all our students.
With Gill driving the initiatives forward we are confident that the vision of the strategy will be achieved.
