The Road Safety Education Team facilitated a full-day workshop to support school leaders with managing the increased student use of e-bikes.

As e-bikes become more popular on the Northern Beaches, schools are navigating both opportunities and challenges, including:
- promoting safe, active travel options
- managing the road safety concerns and road awareness among students
- addressing issues with e-bike storage on school grounds
- raising community awareness around laws and responsible riding.

The Road Safety Education Team hosted a full-day workshop for school leaders to address these opportunities and challenges. The workshop brought together representatives from Transport for NSW, Northern Beaches Council, and the department’s Work Health and Safety team to support schools with developing strategies to manage:
- safe travel to and from school
- on-site storage
- legal responsibilities including duty of care
- student, family and community education.
School leaders had the opportunity to raise specific concerns and access immediate support from the various stakeholders attending the workshop. Practical resources were shared including legal guidance, student agreement templates and the latest information on e-bike regulations - giving schools the tools to implement clear and consistent safety measures.
Workshop feedback was very positive with school leaders appreciating the latest advice, quality resources and opportunity to share their concerns with the various stakeholders on the day.

If your school would like support with addressing student use of e-bikes, please reach out to the Road Safety Education team.
