Stage 4 activity - The impact of mobile phones on road safety
This resource responds to evidence showing the need to strengthen student pedestrian safety. By examining how young people use mobile phones and the risks involved, students will build critical thinking skills and develop greater awareness of responsible behaviour in road environments.
The Students’ Use of Mobile Phones in Schools – Off and Away strategy has supported improved focus and learning in classrooms. However, students also need reminders that, once they leave the school gates, it is important to stay alert in the traffic environment. If they need to use their phone, they should move away from the road and footpath to a safe space, and then put their phone away again before continuing to walk home.
