• assist schools manage bicycles and wheeled devices being ridden to and from school safely
• communicate with parents and carers about safe riding
• reinforce with parents and carers it is their responsibility.

Sample school template for bike riders (Word 434KB)provides:

• a bicycle rider safety guidelines,
• an outline of an agreement for parents/carers and students
• a guide to bicycle maintenance - eight-point safety checklist
• a guide to correctly fitting a helmet

Wheeled devices, scooters and skateboards

Sample school template for wheeled riders (Word 1367KB) provides:

• a wheeled device rider safety guidelines,
• an outline of an agreement for parents/carers and students
• a guide to scooter, skateboard and rollerblades maintenance
• a guide to correctly fitting a helmet

Letters for non helmet use

If a student continually chooses not to wear a helmet a letter can be sent home to parents/carers and/or students about the importance of wearing a helmet and the law.
