Road safety education: Safer behaviours through PDHPE K-6

This professional learning supports K-6 teachers in effectively delivering best practice road safety education, as part of a whole school approach.

Road-related crashes are a leading cause of death and serious injury for children and young people in NSW.

Learning outcomes

Participants will:

  • engage with the PDHPE K-6 Syllabus (2024) to idenitfy road safety content
  • explore resources, including Safety Town, to develop contextualised teaching and learning programs
  • increase their knowledge and understanding of how to manage road safety in and around their school
  • review strategies for promoting safe travel with parents, carers and the community.

Funding

  • Casual relief funding is available if your school has not attended in the last 4 years.
  • Additional teachers are welcome to attend with relief paid by own school.

Accreditation

This professional learning:

  • provides 5 hours of accredited professional development
  • addresses Australian Professional Standards for Teachers 2.1.2 and 3.4.2 (proficient stage)

Participant feedback

Additional support: K-6 road safety education (day 2)

An optional professional development day is available to support participants to develop a road safety education project with a whole school approach:

  • policy, environment and culture
  • parent, carer and community partnership
  • curriculum.
