Becoming mathematicians – How numbers and fractions work

The purpose of this professional learning video is to explore how numbers and fractions work by examining critical components in the development of students' number sense, including the relationships between quantities, language and symbols in making meaning, representing quantities, hierarchical inclusion and the importance of place value.

Who should participate?

All K-8 staff wishing to learn about how numbers and fractions work. The video is about 20 minutes long. You might like to watch it on your own or with your colleagues. If you are working with your colleagues, allowing at least an hour would provide you with time to pause the video to discuss key points and play with some mathematical ideas.
