# Mathematics – Multi-age – Year B – Unit 20

This two-week unit develops student knowledge, understanding and skills to solve mathematical problems using critical and strategic thinking.

Students are provided opportunities to:

• sequence events using a range of methods
• solve time and duration problems using calendars and clocks
• solve and record addition and subtraction problems using objects, diagrams and images
• record answers to multiplication and division problems (including those with remainders) using drawings, words and numerals.

### Early Stage 1

#### Combining and separating quantities – MAO-WM-01, MAE-CSQ-01, MAE-CSQ-02

• Model additive relations and compare quantities
• Identify part–whole relationships in numbers up to 10

#### Forming groups – MAO-WM-01, MAE-FG-01, MAE-FG-02

• Investigate and form equal groups by sharing
• Record grouping and sharing

#### Non-spatial measure – MAE-NSM-01, MAE-NSM-02

• Time: Compare and order the duration of events using the language of time
• Time: Tell time on the hour on analog and digital clocks

### Stage 1

#### Representing whole numbers – MAO-WM-01, MA1-RWN-01, MA1-RWN-02

• Use counting sequences of ones with two-digit numbers and beyond
• Represent the structure of groups of ten in whole numbers
• Use counting sequences of ones and tens flexibly
• Form, regroup, and rename three-digit numbers

#### Combining and separating quantities – MAO-WM-01, MA1-CSQ-01

• Use flexible strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems
• Form multiples of ten when adding and subtracting two-digit numbers
• Use knowledge of equality to solve related problems

#### Forming groups – MA1-FG-01

• Model and use equal groups of objects to represent multiplication
• Recognise and represent division
• Represent and explain multiplication as the combining of equal groups
• Represent multiplication and division problems
