Using the learning progressions with PLAN2 for K-6

Purpose

This one-day face-to-face professional learning for K-6 schools, is designed to assist teachers/school leaders in understanding how the National Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions and PLAN2 can support teachers, to identify student learning needs and differentiate teaching in all key learning areas.

Schools will have the opportunity to consider models of PLAN2 implementation across primary contexts.

This professional learning event represents continued support for schools in implementing the Literacy and Numeracy Strategy 2017-2020. Events are scheduled to take place in a number of locations across the state in Term 3, 2018.

For schools to deepen their understanding of the learning progressions and PLAN2 this initial face-to-face professional learning will be complemented by resources to support school-based professional learning, online learning and local networks run by the Literacy and Numeracy Strategy Advisors.

Who should attend?

K-6 schools are encouraged to send a team of up to 3 teachers including one member of the school leadership team.

Content

Participants will examine the role of the progressions and PLAN2 in supporting formative assessment as part of the teaching-learning cycle. They will learn about the ways in which the progressions can work in support of NSW syllabus outcomes.

Using student work samples, teachers will experience a guided demonstration of PLAN2, followed by some time recording demonstrable literacy and numeracy behaviours. Participants will then examine how to analyse information in PLAN2 and consider its use in supporting the learning needs of students in syllabus planning and programming across all key learning areas.

School teams will work to develop an implementation model for the use of the progressions and PLAN2 to meet the specific needs of their school contexts.

K-6 teams can register for Using the learning progressions with PLAN2

If you experience any difficulties with the registration process, please contact: literacy.numeracy@det.nsw.edu.au
