This professional learning provides K-2 teachers with an opportunity to explore evidence-based approaches to teaching reading.

Content
Teachers will explore how building and extending vocabulary is necessary for effective reading instruction. They will be given opportunities to gain an understanding of how vocabulary can be explicitly and systematically taught, and the strong relationship to the other components of effective reading instruction.
Completing this course will help teachers to:
- reflect and implement evidence based reading practices, with an understanding of the necessary components of effective instruction
- plan, assess and differentiate effective instruction to support the development of vocabulary, within a reading program
- explore practical aspects of explicit teaching of vocabulary in the classroom
