Best Start Year 7
This five hour face-to-face workshop is offered to schools that have chosen to participate in the Best Start Year 7 assessment in 2019. It is designed to answer the questions:
- What do we need to know to be able to deliver Best Start Year 7 in our school?
- How will we include Best Start Year 7 incorporated into our current teaching, learning and assessment practice?
Participants will understand how the Best Start Year 7 assessment has been developed to provide teachers with a snapshot of a range of literacy and numeracy skills and understandings students bring to secondary school. Participants will use the assessment platform to experience a demonstration assessment and investigate the range of analyses that will be available. Teams will plan how to administer and use the Best Start Year 7 assessment in their school. Examples from trial schools will be provided.
It is recommended that, prior to attending this workshop, schools should review the Best Start Year 7 Adobe Connect information session, held in Term 3, 2018. A copy of the Adobe Connect information session and presentation (PDF 1075.81KB) is available on the Best Start Year 7 webpage.
Who should attend?
This professional learning will focus on supporting year 7 teachers and school leaders. A maximum of two staff members may attend.
- One member of the school leadership team (i.e. head teacher, deputy principal or principal)
- One teacher who will be working with Year 7 in 2019 (this could be a subject teacher, learning support teacher, year advisor)
The equivalent of two days casual relief funding will be provided to the school to support this initiative.
Are additional staff able to participate?
Participants will be provided with access to resources after their professional learning day. These materials can be shared with other staff in their school to support preparation for Best Start Year 7 in 2019.
Additional places may become available and participants will be advised two days prior to the event. Schools will need to cover the costs of casual relief for any additional participants.
