Day 2 - Local schools: 7-10 road safety education

In this two day workshop teachers will explore the PDHPE K-10 syllabus through a road safety and whole-school community lens, and plan what this looks like for their students.

This professional learning event is delivered as two single workshop days held several months apart to give participants time to share their learning from day 1 with colleagues, and discuss and prioritise actions for development at workshop day 2.

At the two days teachers will:

  • appreciate that road trauma is a significant contemporary health issue for young people
  • apply the health promoting schools framework to address a road safety concern for their students
  • recognise how and where road safety fits within the PDHPE K-10 syllabus
  • explore digital resources to support their teaching and learning of road safety
  • evaluate a range of teaching and learning activities
  • establish a plan of action for enhancing road safety at their school.
  • apply the PDHPE K-10 syllabus to develop road safety learning experiences tailored to meet their students’ needs
  • localise resources to support the effective teaching of road safety
  • design a professional learning resource to up skill colleagues on effective road safety education
  • establish supportive networks with colleagues in the planning, implementing and evaluating of school road safety education teaching and learning.

Cost: Workshop costs are subsidised by the department’s Road Safety Education Program. One day casual teacher relief is available for each day if your school hasn’t previously attended. Additional teachers are welcome to attend with relief paid by own school. Your school should have been provided with 2 days funding to attend.

Pre-requisites: Some pre-workshop activities are required prior to participating in both workshop days.  Details provided on registration.

Completing this workshop will contribute five hours of NESA registered professional development addressing 1.1.2, 2.1.2, 3.3.2, 6.2.2 and 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, for gaining or maintaining proficient teacher accreditation in NSW.
