The primary and secondary teams at the Learning and Teaching Directorate offer a range of professional learning (PL) opportunities for teachers, available through MyPL (staff only).
Support for new K-10 syllabuses
Syllabuses are developed by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). Our role is to support teachers to become familiar with, and plan for new syllabuses, as well as to stay informed about changes to course and assessment requirements as they occur.
NESA has released new K-10 syllabuses for:
- Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Spanish, for implementation from 2019 (with K-6, Year 7 and Year 9) and from 2020 (with Year 8 and Year 10).
- Arabic, Modern Greek, Turkish and Vietnamese, for implementation from 2020 (with K-6, Year 7 and Year 9) and from 2021 (with Year 8 and Year 10).

eCourse – Languages K-10 syllabus familiarisation and planning
This course is designed to support teachers 7-10 from NSW public schools to become familiar with the syllabus content and messaging, as well as to plan scope and sequences, units of work and assessment tasks.

The course is registered for 3.5 hours of professional learning and there are 4 cohorts for enrolment – Term 1, Term 2, Term 3 and Term 4 2019.
We support local networks with a range of professional learning opportunities. In 2019, this includes:
- Shifting thinking – new K-10 language syllabuses (1.5 hours of registered professional learning)
- Stage 6 school-based assessment in languages (2.5 hours of registered professional learning).

Statewide Adobe Connect updates
On Wednesday in week 4 of each term, a statewide Adobe Connect meeting is held to provide curriculum and project updates. Attending these online meetings can contribute up to 30 minutes to teacher identified PD.
