Stage 1

In the video 'Multimodal texts build meaning' (1 min 30 seconds) Stage 1 students understand that texts draw on readers' or viewers' knowledge of texts to make meaning and enhance enjoyment. (EN1-8B).

The video 'Facilitating rich conversations' (4 mins 25 seconds) demonstrates Stage 1 students:

  • identifying visual representations of characters- actions, reactions, speech and thought processes in narratives, and consider how these images add to or contradict or multiply the meaning of accompanying words
  • comparing opinions about characters, events and settings in and between texts (EN1-4A).

Stage 2

The video 'Exploring literary language' (4 mins 21 seconds) addresses two Stage 2 outcomes as students:

  • draw connections between their personal experiences and the worlds of texts and share responses with others (EN2-11D)
  • experiment with vocabulary choices to engage the listener or reader and experiment with figurative language such as similes, metaphors, idioms and personification, when composing texts to engage an audience (EN2-9B).
