Programming

The NSW K–6 stage and foundation statements and Creative Arts K–6 Syllabus outline what is taught in primary schools. The syllabus can be downloaded from the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) K–6 creative arts page as can other resources, including units of work and student work samples for dance, drama, music and visual arts.

Learning in the arts is underpinned by the belief that all students can develop skills, knowledge and understanding from the content and outcomes of the syllabus. Teaching programs should allow students to build on previous experiences, practise skills and apply knowledge in different contexts.

The following resources may assist with the programming and teaching of K–6 creative arts.

  • The NESA creative arts resources page is a curated list of links for primary teachers including general arts resources, galleries and museums.
  • The Australian curriculum work samples page includes portfolios of student work. Search for the appropriate art form and year.

Programming ideas can be found on the dance, drama, music and visual arts pages and additional resources for the teaching of creative arts have been curated on the resources page.
