Creative Arts K–6 sample units align with the department’s scope and sequence. The structure follows NESA’s sample whole school curriculum plan and is organised on an 8-term-per-stage basis. Eight sample units for Stage 3 will be released in a phased approach across 2025 and 2026.
This unit teaches students to express emotions through movement and sound by exploring dance and music from diverse cultures.
Students investigate dance practices such as Japanese Butoh, West African, and Aboriginal dance to understand how the elements of dance can be used to tell stories and convey ideas.
In Music, students listen to a range of cultural styles to examine how musical elements communicate emotion and use digital technologies to compose blues music with intentionality.
This unit teaches students to discover the power and value of unity and contrast.
In Dance, students explore how unison and contrast can be used when composing and performing to engage an audience.
In Music, students explore how unity and contrast are used to make music interesting and exciting while communicating intent and emotion, with a focus on rock music.
This unit teaches students how advances in technology unlock new possibilities for Drama and Visual Arts practitioners to share stories and communicate meaning.
In Drama students investigate how creative works reflect cultural contexts, belonging, and evolving storytelling practices.
In Visual arts students explore how artists develop and communicate ideas using artmaking materials and processes, including digital technologies.

This unit teaches students to create, perform, and respond to works that connect traditional and contemporary expressions of identity – linking culture, creativity, and popular trends.
In Dance, students explore the social and cultural influences of South African amapiano and Aboriginal dance to understand how contemporary artists maintain cultural identity and belonging.
In Music, students explore how musicians and composers express cultural identity through music in new and popular ways by investigating contemporary Aboriginal musicians and South African amapiano music.
This unit teaches students to combine and apply their dance and music learning by demonstrating freedom in the groove as they compose dance and music performances.
In Dance, students explore their groove through composing a class jazz dance, culminating in a performance.
In Music, students investigate the key features of funk music to explore how it provides freedom for self-expression within musical boundaries.
This unit teaches students by exploring inspiring characters, significant moments, and meaningful stories.
In Drama, students investigate dramatic forms from different cultural and world contexts to explore how practitioners and styles shape meaning for audiences.
In Visual Arts, students explore how artists use materials, techniques, and digital technologies to express ideas shaped by personal, social, and cultural contexts.
