Research shows that middle leaders play a crucial role in leading excellence in teaching practice and improving student outcomes. They are the school leaders who have a direct impact in classrooms and their influence extends across classrooms, teaching teams and schools.
The School Leadership Institute’s new Middle Leadership Development Program (MLDP) is the largest professional learning program in Australia for assistant principals and head teachers, delivered in partnership with the University of Newcastle and the University of Wollongong. The program will begin in February 2022 for up to 200 middle leaders.
Over 18 months, the program will provide targeted, evidence-informed professional learning to build on strengths and develop the capacity of middle leaders to grow as learning leaders who create impact, drive improvement, and enhance student and teacher learning outcomes.
Participants in the MLDP will engage in conferences, online learning, network meetings and other activities, and will have the support of an experienced deputy principal or principal facilitator throughout the program.
Applications for the first cohort of the MLDP are now open and close Friday, 8 October 2021. Middle leaders can apply as individuals or in teams.
The School Leadership Institute is also seeking applications from experienced principals and deputy principals to act as facilitators in the program.
