To support career changers in kick-starting their teaching journey, the department offers a range of scholarships and retraining programs.
Industry professionals considering a career change can be supported through the Mid Career Transition to Teaching Program. Eligible participants will complete a Master of Teaching (Secondary) or a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) to enter a career in secondary teaching. Benefits include a $30,000 one-off training allowance, a guaranteed permanent teaching position in a NSW public school on completion of study, a $30,000 study completion bonus phased over the first three years of employment and mentoring to ensure a smooth transition to the profession.
Applications are now open. Apply before 11:59pm (AEST), Sunday, 16 July 2023.
Current permanent or long-term temporary, School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs), Aboriginal Education Officers (AEOs), School Administration Officers (SAOs), School Administrative Managers (SAMs) and Business Managers (BMs) can also be supported to become a qualified teacher through the Grow Your Own Teacher Training Program. The program is designed in partnership with Charles Sturt University and Western Sydney University to deliver an accredited and flexible teaching degree to meet the needs of experienced SASS staff.
