What we do

The Top Blokes Foundation helps young men develop critical thinking skills and minimise risk-taking behaviours. Through educations and positive role modelling, the organisation aims to improve the wellbeing of boys and young men, enhance their decision-making skills and reduce poor mental health and suicide rates.

All our mentoring programs are delivered on a weekly basis by two qualified youth workers. Participants are selected by the school. We cap the group at 15 participants and ask for a mixed group of boys including those 'at risk' of disengaging, those who are socially isolated, as well as high academic achievers. The hour-long workshops contain both theory and practical activities. Each week we deliver new topics including mental health, anger management, peer pressure, risk taking, healthy relationships, humanising teachers, racism and online behaviours. Content can be selected to suit the particular needs of the school. We are mandatory reporters.

  • Stepping Up
Stepping Up is an eight week mentoring program for primary students. It has been specifically designed for boys aged 10 to 13 years. The program aims to address social issues facing boys and  help them develop key social and decision-making skills. There are 11 workshops available and we work with the school to decide the topics delivered over the eight week program.

Costs: $1000 for the full 8-week program for up to 15 participants, which includes two youth workers and a full evaluation of the program outcomes.

  • Junior Top Blokes Program
The Junior Top Blokes Mentoring Program is a 16-week mentoring program for boys in secondary school. It uses a prevention and early intervention framework to provide an environment that fosters critical thinking so participants can build self-efficacy and the skills to lead healthy and safe lives. The program was designed to tackle anti-social behaviour, community isolation and mental health issues among young males. It uses a peer-led mentoring framework and is targeted at male high school students in Year 9 and 10.

Costs: $2500 for the full 16-week program for up to 15 participants, delivered by two youth workers.

  • The Building Blokes Program
An eight week mentoring program for disengaged male students aged 16 to 24 who want to improve their lives. This course is a great transitional tool for older students who may feel anxious about what to do after finishing school. This program is also a Work Development Order which mean young men who complete it can pay off up to $2,000 worth of Revenue NSW fines. This program allows young men to explore and reflect on issues that are impacting on their lives. They will develop skills including:
    • how to cope with anger
    • how to form and build better relationships
    • healthier ways to deal with gambling, drugs and alcohol
    • the effects of social media
    • how to deal with peer pressure
    • how to build resilience.

Costs: Free.
