A community-based organisation providing school suspension and alternative education pathways for disengaged young people in the broader Sydney area. We believe every young Australian should have equal opportunities regardless of their circumstances.

Where we operate

Sydney: City, Inner South, Eastern Suburbs, Inner South West, Inner West, Outer South West, South Western Sydney, Fairfield, Outer West, Blue Mountains, Parramatta, Hawkesbury, Blacktown, Ryde, Baulkham Hills, Sutherland, North Sydney, Hornsby, Northern Beaches.

Secondary students, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, refugee students, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse students.

What we do

Whitelion provides school suspension and alternative education pathways which give young people the pride, courage and opportunity to change their lives. We aim to:

  • increase social connection and inclusion
  • build meaningful relationships
  • create opportunities that enable vulnerable young people to reach their full potential.

Engagement or Re-engagement Services

  • Re-engage into Supported Education (RISE)
    A short-term solution for young people who have disengaged from high school. It provides a less formal and more flexible approach to education in a youth-centred environment. RISE provides young people who have been suspended, expelled or are chronically disengaged from high school, with quality learning experiences. Our RISE coordinator designs and facilitates learning activities in collaboration with young people to ensure educational goals and individual learning preferences are met. RISE is delivered at our Claymore Youth Centre,

Costs: To be discussed on a per client / referral basis.

  • Learning and Employment Achievement Program (LEAP)
    A targeted delivery program aimed at connecting with disengaged young people in the Fairfield area. It includes:
    • case management - working with the young person to address the underlying barriers to engaging in education and learning
    • education - providing a community-based setting where learning is supported in partnership with the referring school or distance education
    • supported referral - working with young people to identify barriers that may require specialist support such as mental health issues and domestic violence
    • transition back to school / training / employment - working with young people to ensure they are supported and can find the courage to change their future.
