What we do

The Northern Centre delivers services across the Northern Sydney District. We are co-located with eight community organisations who can provide complimentary services, including a pro-bono Women's Legal Clinic. Our key funded programs are:

  • Family Support including individual and family counselling, youth services, parenting programs, supported playgroups
  • Early Intervention Homelessness Program

Parenting programs

Our parenting programs provide parents with additional skills to help them raise their families. Our programs aim to build confidence in individuals and families to manage new and emerging challenges such as:

  • boundary-setting
  • different approaches to parenting
  • balancing cultural expectations
  • separation
  • careers
  • financial stress
  • managing children’s developmental, mental and emotional issues.

Our programs are evidence-based and facilitated by accredited and experienced facilitators. The programs cover the child development cycle from 0 to 18 years and can be delivered in English, Mandarin and Korean. These services are delivered Monday-Saturday and some evenings, at both in-reach and outreach locations. The specific programs we offer are:

  • Family Support Services
Our individual and family counselling is delivered by qualified and experienced counsellors and Social Workers. This support can be delivered both at school or office based and is provided for up to three months and extended upon review. Individual sessions are usually one hour and frequency is agreed between parent and family.

Costs: The cost for services is varied depending on the type of service required. Service cost will be based in an individual need and is negotiable on enquiry.

  • Other parenting programs
We also offer Triple P, 123 Magic, Circle of Security, Tuning into Kids and Teens.

Costs: The cost for services depends on the type of service required and individual need. Negotiable on enquiry.

Other Student Engagement and Attendance Services

  • Drumbeat
A ten week, evidence-based program that explores relationship issues and targets a range of recognised risk factors. The program helps build resilience by increasing protective factors such as social connection, self-esteem, social skills and emotional control. Students are encouraged to explore their own creativity and develop their own rhythms. It includes game-based learning which promotes fun while practicing social skills. All programs are targeted at Year 4 to 12 and by accredited facilitators through both in-reach and out-reach locations. The make-up of sessions can be varied depending on the program.

Costs: The costs are negotiable and will vary depending on the type of service and individual requirements.
