The location loading measures remoteness using the Accessibility/ Remoteness Index of Australia (ARIA+) and measures isolation based on a school’s enrolments and distance from other schools. (National Schools Statistics Collection (NSSC) data – all enrolments.)
Location
The location funding allocation is provided to address school needs associated with remoteness and/or isolation. The allocation is on pages 8 and 9 of the School Budget Allocation Report (SBAR).
Schools have the flexibility to decide how to use these resources to address school needs associated with remoteness and/or isolation.
Examples of effective use of the allocation include:
- employing a teacher through a temporary engagement to fill staff absences on a daily basis. This allows the teacher to become part of the school community and build relationships with students, leading to less classroom management issues and increased consistency in teachers and classroom routine
- using funding for swim school buses (which might otherwise make the cost of the program prohibitive)
- purchasing resources to enable connection and collaboration with other schools for a range of purposes, including professional learning
- developing and delivering professional learning which is open to other schools, supporting the school to increase collaboration and overcome isolation.
