Student pathways better understood with new data

The updated "Pathways Outcomes for Learners" dashboard helps provide interesting insights into post-school pathways and outcomes over a decade after leaving school.

New data gathered through the update of the Pathways Outcomes for Learners for dashboard can be used to identify pathways and outcomes of different student cohorts and help shape policy development.

This is the first public release of the new data from the Pathways dataset which links de-identified demographic, employment and education data.

The new dashboard includes insights into outcomes at ages 21, 24 and 27 years old which allows a better understanding of student pathways

When compared only at age 24, many pathways had similar outcomes with 20% of Year 12 completers still studying at age 24.

Outcomes diverged at later ages as students completed studies or pursued further education. An additional outcome measure – earning above 175% of minimum wage – has been included to provide further income information.

Users can explore key pathways from study to successful employment in the dashboard – including outcomes at ages 21, 24 and 27. Pathways of key cohorts can be followed in the updated factsheets.

A new factsheet has also been included, which explores the different outcomes and pathways between males and females.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics and the Centre of Health Records Linkage are the authorised authorities that link and de-identify the data.

The Department and its partners are committed to meeting all legal, privacy, ethical and data security requirements while maintaining the confidentiality and security of the data.
