Lucinda Shilcock: Women in Trades Winner

Lucinda is a proud indigenous woman who is also a passionate advocate for Aboriginal students.

“A proud Guringai woman of the Eora nation with Mob from the Hawkesbury region, I am an ambassador for the Indigenous people and women everywhere working towards becoming an electrician.”

Growing up on farms, Lucinda's passion for working with her hands and her knack for visualizing tasks set her on a path to becoming an electrician. Despite grappling with a learning difficulty that had troubled Lucinda since secondary school, she was determined to succeed.

With the support of her TAFE teacher, she developed creative approaches to her studies and gained the necessary math skills needed to pass her exams. After finding a supportive employer in GBE group, they ensured she could make the most of every learning opportunity.

Finally qualified as an electrician, Lucinda is proud of all that she has achieved despite any obstacles thrown in her way. She is proof that hard work and dedication can lead anyone down the path of success. Her story is an inspiration to us all.

She encourages others not to give up on their dreams and firmly believes that anything is achievable if you put in the work. “I am a determined and educated woman with a fierce drive to succeed, and I am proud to say I am an electrician," Lucinda says. A testament to her hard work, determination, and passion for learning, Lucinda's story is an inspiring reminder that given the right guidance and support, anyone can succeed, no matter their background or circumstances. She is proof of what can be achieved when you put your mind and heart into it.
