Get out of the classroom and onto the seas as you qualify as a Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal. This comprehensive course will equip you with the skills and experience to operate vessels up to 12 meters as a ship’s master.

This school based traineeship provides you with the skills required as a Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal, you will Gain practical experience and develop specialist skills that give you an advantage in the job market.

  • A nationally accredited qualification at Certificate II level

  • Water survival skills
  • Eligibility to apply for the Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal certificate through AMSA
  • A strong study pathway to go on to higher-level maritime qualifications

  • MAR20324 Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal) .

Course delivery

  • On the job and off the job and is delivered face-to-face.
  • The SBT term is calculated in months from the date of commencement to 31 December of the HSC year.

Commitment required

  • Undertake a minimum of 100 days in paid employment plus the formal training to complete the qualification.
  • Undertake Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal) as part of your HSC.
  • The employment and training can be undertaken during school time, after school and during school holidays.

How will you be assessed?

  • Both on the job and off the job through written tests, project work and practical exercises.
