Year 7 reserves

At 3:00 pm on 18 December 2023, the names of students holding an offer to a selective high school were removed from any higher choice school reserve lists.

If the Outcome is showing as ‘Reserve’ it means your child is on the reserve list (waiting list) for that school (or schools). You may be made an offer if your child’s position on the reserve list is reached before all vacancies are filled. Reserve lists close at the end of Term 1 and no further offers are made for Year 7 entry.

What do the reserve bands mean?

Parents are given a band A to F next to the relevant school choice if the student has a place on a reserve list.

The ‘Reserve band’ column provides a general estimate for how long it might take to receive an offer from your child’s position on the reserve list for that school. This is based on when students in a similar position were placed during the previous year’s placement process. The bands are estimates only. The number and timing of declined offers is not necessarily the same from year to year.

Reserve list numbers are not published and are not generally released, as the band is a better indication of possible timing and likelihood.

Reserve list bands

Band Estimate based on previous year
A within 1 month of the outcome notification
B within 2 months of the outcome notification
C within 3 months of the outcome notification
D within 4 months of the outcome notification
E within 5 months of the outcome notification
F offer not likely by the end of the year

If your child has been placed on a reserve list for selective high school placement, they will be given a reserve band. This information is displayed in the 'Reserve band' column of the application dashboard next to the relevant school.

It is important to note, that students who are placed on a reserve list for a particular school are not guaranteed an offer.

Reserve bands range from 'band A' to 'band F' and are an estimate of the timeframe in which your child might receive an offer from a school.

These estimates are based on the timing of reserve band offers from the previous year and are designed to help you and your family make educational plans. Importantly, they should only be treated as a guide and may change due to variations in the number and timing of declined offers each year.

If your child's position on a reserve list is reached, you will receive an email asking you to view the updated outcome in the application dashboard. This is where you can choose to 'accept' or 'decline' the placement offer.

Offers are provided for a limited time and will expire if no action is taken before the response due date.

If you have accepted a placement offer from a school and receive an offer from a different school, you can choose to 'accept' or 'decline' the new offer. If you accept the new offer, the original offer is automatically declined.

You may accept an offer while remaining on a reserve list for a higher choice school until the last day of the school year. To remain on a reserve list for a higher choice school after the last day of the school year, you must decline the current offer. This means that students who have accepted an offer for placement are unable to remain on the reserve list for a higher choice school after that date.

Students who haven't accepted any offers can remain on the selective high school reserve list until the end of Term 1 in Year 7. If you no longer want your child to be placed in a particular school, select ‘Withdraw’ from the reserve list in the application dashboard. Please note that this decision cannot be changed later.

Visit the selective high schools and opportunity classes website for reserve list progression updates and additional information.

Declining a reserve outcome

If your child is on a reserve list but you are sure you do not want your child to be placed in that school, please select ‘Withdraw’ and confirm that, yes, you do want to withdraw from the reserve list. You cannot change this decision later.

Notification of a subsequent or further offer

If your child's position on a reserve list is reached, the Team will contact you by an email alerting you to log in to your application dashboard to view the updated outcome. Make sure you check your email junk folder regularly.

If you get a subsequent or further offer, you must either accept it or decline it by the response due date shown or it will lapse.

If you already had an offer, you can choose to accept the new offer or decline it and keep your original offer. If you accept the new offer, the original offer is automatically declined.

Students on reserve lists are not guaranteed an offer.

Aurora College does not have a reserve list as all offers are made to allow the College to work with host schools as soon as outcomes are released.

Closing of reserve lists

Reserve lists close at the beginning of Term 2 in the placement year. Any vacancies after that time will be carried over to the Years 8 to 12 application process.

End of year removal from reserve lists

You may accept an offer and also remain on a reserve list or lists for a higher choice school (or schools) until the last day of the school year. At that time you must make the decision whether to keep the offer or to decline it in order to remain on a reserve list or lists.

At 3:00 pm on 18 December 2023, the names of students holding an offer to a selective high school are removed from any higher choice school reserve lists. To remain on a reserve list for a higher choice school, you must decline the existing offer before that date. From this date until the start of Term 2 in the year of placement, offers will be made only to those remaining on reserve lists who have declined their previous offer or who have not yet received an offer.

Progress of the reserve lists

This table shows which reserve band is currently being offered for each selective high school. The list is updated when there is movement from one band to another until 18 December 2023.

The progress list shows changes up until 21 December 2023. No further updates are made after this date.
