Heritage

The Heritage team is tasked with the responsibility of managing and maintaining the heritage records of the Department of Education’s heritage assets. They ensure that SINSW business units have easy accessibility to this information to enable and provide advice and guidance on projects that may affect historic and treasured infrastructure.

These are the services offered by the team:

  • Collate and curate legislative heritage compliance documentation for heritage auditing purposes.
  • Prepare heritage guidance documentation so that recurrent low-risk heritage-adjacent activities can be managed without external input.
  • Prepare and support heritage induction materials to improve heritage awareness for SINSW Business Units.
  • Prepare the SINSW Connected with Country Framework and assist in its implementation.
  • Build the SINSW Heritage Management Strategy documentation.
  • Develop proactive heritage management schedules in conjunction with AM.
  • Assist in the development of standard scoping briefs for common heritage services.
  • Provide best-practice heritage advice to SINSW business units in a timely manner.
  • Provide input into strategic decision-making proposals to heritage assets
  • Prepare site selection heritage snapshots for early identification of heritage risks and opportunities for projects.
  • Provide detailed review of external heritage consultant’s reporting as well as consultant’s scope of services.

This Resource

SINSW Heritage team have put together some resources to help you get to know a little about the cultural heritage of NSW public schools.

Schools along with other public buildings form the cultural and spiritual centres of our State’s communities - whether historic or modern in style - from the city to the suburbs, to regional cities and towns, small country towns and hamlets. Countless places across NSW have or have had a public school.

SINSW Heritage invite you to browse this growing library of conservation knowledge to help our public schools (heritage listed or yet to be listed) understand their history, maintain and restore their appearance and structure and preserve them for generations to come.
