For schools

The BASC commitment is improving access and flexibility for parents to before and after school care through targeted improvements for access including:

  • Ensuring available spaces in NSW public primary schools are made available to before and after school care and school holiday care programs where there is a need
  • Making it easier for schools to host BASC services with a team of contract managers to help coordinate operations and reduce the administrative burden on principals

The Department continues to work with schools, communities and providers to deliver new approaches and to respond to the needs of families.

Schools will benefit from a range of solutions that include stand-alone onsite before and after school care services, additional space to increase access in existing services, and ‘Group of Schools’ solutions for remote and rural areas where a stand-alone service may not be viable.

Having flexible and affordable before and after school care encourages community involvement with the school, and over time will encourage enrolments and build parent confidence that services can remain viable and sustainable.

Principals are encouraged to support regular school census and parent demand surveys that inform decisions we make to provide flexible and affordable care for families.

Contact the BASC Team to discuss your school’s BASC requirements at BASCreform@det.nsw.edu.au or call 1300 244 145.
