All the details
The Cool Controller Competition aims to encourage and support stage 3 and 4 students to use a design thinking approach to develop an improved ‘Smart’ control unit for the Cooler Classroom air conditioning and fresh air ventilation units.
Students will be encouraged to think like entrepreneurs and completely redesign the current system in terms of connectivity, data capture and visual appearance. The design solution they come up with must focus on sustainable practices for:
- Improved thermal comfort - temperature, humidity and airflow
- Improved indoor air quality - CO2
All the dates you need to know are in the Key dates section.
Students will be encouraged to apply innovative ‘blue sky’ thinking to produce a design concept for a ‘Smart’ device and prepare a pitch to sell their idea.

The first 100 teams to enter will get Splat 3D design tools (Design Excellence and Sustainable Design - Australian Good Design Awards 2019). The first 100 teachers to register will get a free PD Masterclass in Designing for Sustainability.
