Travel training

Have you considered travel training to increase your child’s confidence and  independence?

From July 2016, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is funding selected Community Transport Service providers to provide travel training across the wider Sydney area and the Central Coast and Newcastle.

Travel training can assist students with disability who wish to travel on public transport but may feel there are barriers to doing so. The training helps students to understand timetables, types of tickets, getting to and from public transport, how to board and disembark safely, being safe while travelling and changing between different types of transport. Travel training aims to give students the information, confidence and capability to make trips independently.

Visit the Transport for NSW website for more information on the First Stop Transport - Travel Training program.

Private Vehicle Conveyance subsidy (PVC)

Transport for NSW administers the Private Vehicle Conveyance (PVC) subsidy. The subsidy is available to NSW residents where there is no public transport (government or private operators) available to transport an eligible student for all or part of the journey to school. The PVC subsidy is only intended to offset the cost of using a private vehicle to drive the eligible student and is not intended to cover all costs.

Details on eligibility and how to apply for Private Vehicle Conveyance subsidy can be found on the Transport for NSW website.

School Student Transport Scheme

The School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) provides subsidised travel for eligible school students on rail, bus, ferry and long distance coach services.
