Excitement was in the air as Year 4 students from across Orange public schools stepped into the world of high school at the 2026 Secondary Experience Expo (SEE Day) on Tuesday, May 5.

In a powerful example of collaboration, Canobolas High School and Orange High School came together to create a vibrant, hands-on experience designed to introduce students to high school life in a way that is welcoming, engaging and full of possibility.

This early transition initiative reflects the shared commitment of Orange public schools to ensure students feel supported, confident and ready as they begin their journey into high school.

From the moment students arrived at both campuses, students immersed themselves in a wide range of activities that showcased the diversity of learning on offer in public high schools.

In the science lab, students created colourful lava lamps, while in the Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) and Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) spaces creativity came to life through practical, hands-on tasks. The energy continued outdoors, with physical challenges including tug-of-war alongside the Clontarf team, and a visit to the agricultural plot where Lizzie the cow became a crowd favourite.

For many, a highlight of the day was stepping into the kitchen to make their own ice-cream sundaes, a memorable experience that brought plenty of smiles. These moments, big and small, helped students begin to see high school as a place where learning is not only meaningful, but enjoyable.

A key part of the day’s success was the involvement of current high school students. Year 9 and 10 student leaders guided groups, shared their experiences and helped younger students feel at ease. Their leadership played an important role in building connections and showing what a supportive and inclusive high school environment looks like.

SEE Day is more than just a visit, it’s a carefully designed early transition experience that helps students build familiarity with high school settings, connect with teachers and students and begin to imagine themselves in this next stage of learning.

It allows students to discover what high school is really like, enjoy hands-on activities, and walk away feeling confident and excited about what lies ahead.

This event is a testament to the strength of our Orange public school community. Through a genuine partnership between Canobolas High School, Orange High School and their partner primary schools, students are given opportunities to connect, explore and thrive.
