The Department of Education’s third annual Schools Roadshow kicked off at Kariong Mountains High School yesterday, bringing together nearly 200 Central Coast and Hunter Valley principals and NSW senior executives to strengthen public education and improve outcomes for students.

“The roadshows are one of the highlights of the year, creating valuable opportunities for the Department’s leadership team to have direct, on-the-ground conversations with principals so we can find out what’s working and what we can do better,” NSW Department of Education Secretary Murat Dizdar said.

During the day, principals took part in interactive workshops focused on key priorities, including curriculum delivery, effective teaching practices, workforce and staffing, infrastructure, and student wellbeing. The sessions also provided time for leaders to connect, collaborate and learn from one another.

Mr Dizdar said the roadshows played a critical role in shaping the future of public education.

“It’s fantastic to see a packed room of highly engaged and passionate school leaders. Importantly, this is not just about hearing from us – it’s about deep listening,” he said.

“Local principals are sharing their insights, feedback and local experiences, and that’s essential to improving outcomes for every student.”

The event highlighted strong progress across NSW public schools, from nation-leading NAPLAN results in key areas to rising community confidence in public education, as every school now delivers tailored opportunities for high potential and gifted students through the Inspire program.

Kariong Mountains High School principal Donna James said it was a “great privilege” to host the event, with students showcasing their skills throughout the day in leadership, entertainment and hospitality.

“We’re a small school with a big heart, and the roadshow has given us an opportunity to celebrate our wonderful school,” Ms James said.

Schools Roadshows will be held at 10 locations, including Goulburn, Mona Vale, Forbes, Girraween, Griffith, Menai, Broken Hill, Port Macquarie and finishing in Lismore on 26 June.
