A new web-based game – Mighty Heroes – designed for middle-primary students, is being launched today to mark the 2026 Safer Internet Day.
Safer Internet Day, on 10 February 2026, is “a Global Day of Action bringing communities, schools, organisations and families from 180 countries together to raise awareness of online safety issues and work towards a safer internet”.
In Australia, the eSafety Commissioner leads the day and says it’s “a way to get people talking about how we can make online spaces safer and more positive for everyone”.
“Sign up to receive everything you need to plan activities at work or in schools to promote online safety – not just on the day but all year round.,” the Office of the eSafety Commissioner says on its website
Safer Internet Day is also an important opportunity for schools to reinforce good digital behaviour across school communities.
The NSW Education Department encourages school communities to register and attend Safer Internet Day online events throughout February to begin 2026 on a positive and safe note and build a consistent and proactive cyber safety culture.
Professional learning for staff and webinars for parents and carers strengthens whole-school approaches.
Cybermarvel supports schools and families to learn about online safety, good digital citizenship and cyber security education. Resources include live virtual classrooms for primary students, interactive lessons for secondary students and Universal Resource Hub lesson plans across all stages.
Teachers can also access on-demand lessons covering a range of topics including cyber safety, information privacy and security, deepfakes and more. Or, they can have a bit of fun with students while learning about being internet safe with games like Mighty Heroes.
The Mighty Heroes are four Australian bush characters who each have an online safety message for students:
Wanda the echidna: I am responsible – I protect my personal information.
River the sugar glider: I show respect – I am kind and caring to others.
Dusty the frilled neck lizard: I trust my feelings – I ask for help when something doesn’t feel right.
Billie the bilby: I investigate – I question what I see, hear and do online.
To help students navigate the game, educator notes will be available with more than 60 classroom activity ideas and correct answers, supporting resources, student worksheets and a completion certificate.
Most importantly the game is curriculum-aligned and meets key learning areas and general capabilities.
The game doesn’t require any logins and can be played on interactive whiteboards, tablets, desktops and laptops.
