Rutherford crowned Little Origin champions

Students from Rutherford and Elemore Vale public schools enjoyed a unique experience for game three of the Women’s State of Origin series.

Rutherford Public School was the winner of the 2025 Ampol Little Origin Shield, defeating Elemore Vale Public during half time of the Women’s State of Origin game three clash in Newcastle.

In front of more than 21,000 fans at Newcastle’s McDonald Jones Stadium, the Rutherford players held their nerve to emerge triumphant, four tries to nil.

Ten lucky students from both schools welcomed the two teams to the stadium for Thursday night’s clash, won 18-14 by Queensland.

Rutherford Public School Relieving Assistant Principal Tahnee Milgate said students received a special jersey and took part in a skills and education session.

“It was an unforgettable experience that gave our students a taste of top-level sport, teamwork, and community spirit,” she said.

The captains from the two school teams were also tasked with carrying the Women’s State of Origin Shield onto the field.
