Nominations open for 19th Nanga Mai Awards

The awards celebrate and recognise excellence and outstanding achievement in Aboriginal education in NSW public schools.

Nominations for the 19th annual Nanga Mai Awards are now open.

The Nanga Mai Awards acknowledge and celebrate outstanding achievements in Aboriginal education across NSW public schools.

Educators, students, and community members are encouraged to nominate deserving individuals and initiatives that have made significant contributions to Aboriginal education and cultural awareness.

Speaking at the 18th Nanga Mai Awards ceremony in 2023, NSW Department of Education Secretary Murat Dizdar said the awards recognised talented students and staff, who worked tirelessly for their schools and communities.

“These awards continue to show that strong community partnerships, dedicated staff and targeted, culturally appropriate programs are integral to the success and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in NSW public schools,” he said.

The 2024 award categories include:

  • Student Awards

  • Staff Awards

  • School/Community Awards

Nominations for the 19th Nanga Mai Awards can be submitted online until Friday 16 August 2024.
