Port Macquarie students are in for a boost in the 2025 school year as the Minns Labor Government delivers major school upgrades as part of $70 million in improvement works to Hastings Secondary College’s Port Macquarie campus.

Students returning for the New Year will be welcomed into the new Building T, finished last month, which features four new classrooms, new Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) facilities, a seminar room, a new staffroom and a new accessible bathroom.

The completion of these works marks a significant step in the multi-million-dollar upgrade, which was delayed under the former Liberal National Government, who promised to finish the project by 2022. The school is also making use of a new multi-purpose sports facility, built in partnership with the Police Citizens Youth Clubs (PCYC) completed last year as part of the major upgrade works.

The new shared use multi-sports facility includes sports courts, gymnastic facilities, weights rooms, a PCYC office, multipurpose rooms, a youth hub and staff kitchen facilities.

Other improvements delivered to students include 15 new and upgraded classrooms, a redeveloped school entry, three new lifts to improve accessibility, and a new Creative and Performing Arts building.

Further works, due for completion in mid-2025, include upgrades to a further seven classrooms, including five supported learning areas, the delivery of a practical activities area, and upgrades to the school bathrooms.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car will today visit the Port Macquarie Campus to view the new T Building and meet with members of the school community, ahead of the return of students next week.

The Minns Labor Government has invested a historic $1.4 billion to build new schools and upgrade schools in regional NSW, after more than a decade of neglect by the Liberals and Nationals.

Our ongoing investment in important local communities means every child in NSW will have access to a high-quality public school in their local area.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said:

“Investing in our public schools is vital to ensuring all students across NSW can access the best possible education, no matter their location or circumstances.

“These school upgrades will enrich the lives of Port Macquarie students academically, physically and creatively for years to come.

“I know the school community were let down by the delays to this project by the former Liberal National Government, but I’m pleased that under the Minns Labor Government these works are finally being delivered.

“Making these investments in public schools means our schools remain valuable community assets, providing benefits to local families and children for generations.”

Duty MLC for Port Macquarie Cameron Murphy said:

“It is fantastic to see further upgrades completed at the Port Macquarie Campus of Hastings Secondary College.

“I am proud to be part of the Minns Labor Government who is delivering for families and young people on the Mid North Coast and ensuring students can learn in world-class school facilities.”

College Principal Hastings Secondary Campus, Meaghan Cook said:

“We are excited for staff and students to be able to use the upgraded buildings with completion of all works becoming nearer across both Port Macquarie and Westport Campuses.

“This new building will allow students and staff access to brand new flexible learning spaces which include dedicated Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) facilities.

“The work on the new classrooms comes off the back of works completed last year which saw the completion of the shared PCYC space, as well as other significant upgrades across both Port Macquarie and Westport campuses.”
