Mayfield East Public School (on Awabakal country) was proud to host WEMOOSH – West East Mayfield Out Of School Hours care – as it showcased the work of its staff on OOSH Educators Day.

Principal Andrea Webster says family members were invited to sample how the OOSH operates and join in the activites.

“Last year WEMOOSH earnt a rating of ‘Exceeding’ under the National Quality Standard, and anyone visiting was able to see why.

“The staff, students and visitors took part in a range of activities, including music, rugby league, chess, cooking, gymnastics, science, yarn and paint, and a fun family challenge.”

WEMOOSH was established in 1988, moving to Mayfield East Public School in 2012, and now has four minibuses to cater for nearly 240 children from schools in Mayfield, Carrington and Tighes Hill.

“Such a well established OOSH covering a number of suburbs doesn’t just benefit the children,” said Andrea.

“It also becomes really important to those suburbs’ social cohesion, bringing families together.

“It’s very fitting that we celebrate the work of OOSH educators, who can spend more time with the children than their teachers do during the week, let alone during vacations.

“We were delighted to see family members come to see their work first hand and acknowledge the support they give to local children’s development.”

WEMOOSH showcased the educators’ work with a short video of the team sharing why they love their roles, and there was a screening of “WEMOOSH TV”, highlighting the fun and learning activities from a week at the OOSH.
